    Overall Environment

    21. Briefly describe practical actions the company has taken during the reporting period and/or plans to take to implement the environment principles, including any challenges faced and actions taken towards prevention and/or remediation.

BMSC conducts GHG emissions assessment annually. Our scope 1 emission is from clean energy of Natural Gas. Scope 2 emission is zero because we have achieved 100% wind renewable energy with no-emit source. Our target is a 20% reduction of GHG emission per unit produced in 2024 and zero landfill in 2025. We have implemented scope 3 GHG emission reduction programs through waste to energy recovery and waste to compost to achieve zero landfill goal. Our strategies are energy efficiency, resource efficiency and reducing or mitigate cost. We also work with suppliers and customers to reduce upstream and downstream emissions and are committed to purchasing sustainable marketed products. BMSC has installed 2 cyclones for air pollution dust control. Waste from dust control is 100% recycled via program of waste to compost. PBR Air permit was evaluated. The wastewater treatment plant is located onsite to ensure treated industrial wastewater in compliance with POTW wastewater discharge permit via Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system. Wastewater sludge is 100% recycled via recycle for compost. Operators received training in DAF operation and conduct daily operation logbook and checklist. The city provides drinking water. BMSC has a water treatment plant onsite with disinfection, filtration, RO and UV system to provide purified water for our products to achieve FDA’s requirements. Water purchased from City and wastewater discharged to POTW are monitored and reported via wastewater semi-annual report to City. Stormwater discharge is monitored and inspected via Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP). Compliance samples are taken semi-annually to ensure stormwater discharge in compliance with Texas Multi-Sector General stormwater discharge permit. Rain gauge monitoring, recordkeeping and semi-annual visual monitoring are conducted. Spill/Slug Discharge Control Plan and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure Plan (SPCC) are implemented to eliminate or minimize the potential for an accidental discharge of pollutants, including identifying potential accidental discharge sources, implementing preventative measures, conducting accidental discharge response and notifying the authorities. Monthly facility inspection is conducted. Secondary containments were built at Tank Farm and wastewater treatment plant to prevent spills of chemicals and oil from reaching stormwater, Wastewater and soil. Capacity of secondary containment meets requirements of 110% capacity of max. Tank plus 24 hr. 25yr rainfall. Work instruction of containment area, piping and valves monthly inspection is provided. BMSC committed to minimize waste generated, and increase reuse and recycle to achieve zero landfill. Daily waste generated is monitored on each production line. Packaging is designed for easy dismantling and recyclability. Waste generated at BMSC is classified and assigned waste code according to Texas guidelines for the classification and coding of industrial and hazardous wastes. Currently, we have waste to energy recovery, waste to compost and waste to fuel blending and waste to incinerator programs. Waste removal is controlled via material destruction process. Assessment of waste to recycle and landfill is conducted semi-annually. Work Instruction of Truck loading and unloading operations and training are provided. A 5-year Pollution Prevention Plan (P2 plan) has been implemented. Progress of implementing P2 Plan is monitored, assessed and reported to Texas Commision on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) annually. All employees in BMSC received EHS policy training from HazCom. Hazardous waste inventory and storage area are inspected weekly to ensure storage time in compliance, storage containers in good shape without leaking and containers being labelled correctly. All containers of hazardous waste are stored in secondary containments. EHS provides work instruction of universal waste management, bio-hazard management, waste container management, used product container management, and spill cleanup procedures. The alcohol storage room is built as division 1 class 1 safety graded for flammable alcohol storage and alcohol compounding. The room installed automatic doorway spill barrier to prevent chemical spills. Bulk chemicals are stored at Tank Farm in secondary containment. Chemical storage cabinets are provided for daily use of small quantity hazardous chemicals. Toxic chemical release is monitored and reported to EPA via TRI report. New chemicals introduced to BMSC are approved by EHS. EHS maintains approved chemical list. Inventory of Hazardous chemicals are monitored and Tier II report is submitted to TCEQ, LEPC and local fire department when storage quantity triggers chemical storage threshold. Assessment of Environmental risks conducted by third party via Industrial Hygiene Repot to evaluate potential exposures of total particulates and noise. The results indicated that the airborne exposures were below applicable OELS for the specific contaminants evaluated and the exposures were adequately controlled. Customer audits were performed on site by LOREAL and J&J, including environmental, labor practices & Human rights, business ethics, a list of non-compliances identified and contain of corrective action plan. A project of LED light upgrade is ongoing to save energy. We report CDP Climate change and EcoVadis annually which demonstrates quantitative data and goals, including energy usage of electricity and natural gas and carbon assessment.
