Optional commentThe management has committed to ensure that the company’s operations are conducted while considering the environment, workers welfare and the well-being of the community. Annual environmental, safety, risk assessment and fire audits are conducted and the recommendations implemented. They also ensure monitoring of various parameters through accredited laboratories. This include; product quality tests to ensure the final product is safe for human consumption, environmental aspects are within the stipulated limits and corrective measures implemented where necessary. Potential risks in the different company’s operations are also reviewed through internal and external audits periodically with an objective to improve the operations.2. Optional commentThe company has a Compliance and Human Resource department that works closely with other departments. These departments have compliance officers and human resource personnel. The compliance department is responsible for ensuring the company complies with relevant regulations such as the Environmental Management and Coordination Act, (EMCA) 1999 (Ammended 2015), Occupation, Safety and Health Act, 2007 among others. It also ensures a smooth relationship between the company and the CSR office though frequent meetings where community concerns and suggestions are taken into consideration. The Human Resource Department ensures a transparent recruitment process, employees are conversant with the work environment and that the company complies with the labour laws. The labour laws give guidelines on aspects such as ensuring that employees employed are above the age of 18 years (hence no child labour) among others.5. Optional commentKrystalline Salt Limited collaborated with the other salt farms to undertake a Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) study. This study aims to bring on board PPE manufacturers who will be involved in assessing the work done especially salt harvesting and the most appropriate PPE. This study will inform the most appriate PPEs for use in the salt works and enhance workers productivity.3. Optional commentInternal traininings are conducted to inform as well as enhance workers knowledge on their responsibility in regards to a good work environment. Waste Management. Training of staff on waste segregation has been conducted and bins provided with an aim to recycle. Air Pollution. Quarterly air emission tests are conducted to determine if the emissions are within the stipulated limits. Climate Change. In addition to maintaining the mangrove vegetation within the company's land and undertaking tree planting initiatives, we have registered in the Climate Ambition Accelerator so as to engage more on green house gases emission reduction. The company has put in place mechanisms to try as much as possible to apply for licences and permits early before they are due. Follow up letters are written to the relevant organisations to inquire on the progress of applications, licenses or provision of services as well as questioning delays.
