    Desde el 2019 la empresa cuenta con una Política de Derechos Humanos, que se da a conocer a todos los empleados en las sesiones de inducción. Adicionalmente, se cuenta con un correo electrónico como mecanismo confidencial para presentar inquietudes y denuncias relacionadas con ética y respeto a los derechos humanos. En relación con la Igualdad de Género, en el 2021, se aplicó el diagnóstico “Women Empowerment Principles” (WEP’s, por sus siglas en inglés) de ONU Mujeres. A partir de los resultados, se conformó un Comité de Género, encargado de formular y ejecutar un plan de acción, para sensibilizar y capacitar a todos los colaboradores en temas de inclusión y equidad.

    13. Briefly describe practical actions the company has taken during the reporting period and/or plans to take to implement the labour rights principles, including any challenges faced and actions taken towards prevention and/or remediation.

    Nuestra empresa tiene como objetivo ser el mejor sitio para trabajar en Guanacaste, construyendo carreras, no trabajos, mediante una estructura de gestión de talento que incluye: gestión de cambios, clima organizacional y capacitaciones técnicas. Este periodo se realizó la encuesta de Clima y Cultura, con el fin de conocer la satisfacción de los colaboradores, en la que participaron 304 colaboradores y la satisfacción general obtuvo una calificación de 81,2 %. La empresa brinda diversos beneficios para sus colaboradores de tiempo completo y tiempo parcial. Entre ellos, se destacan transporte, cafetería, programa de bienestar, permiso parental, entre otros. Durante el 2021, se brindaron 161 espacios de capacitación (charlas, capacitaciones y entrenamientos), con un total de 14.389 horas impartidas en programas técnicos y de liderazgo. En relación con la seguridad de los colaboradores, se ha puesto en marcha un Sistema de Gestión de Salud y Seguridad Ocupacional que cubre todas las instalaciones y actividades de la empresa, así como a los proveedores directos de ambas entidades. El Departamento encargada identifica y minimiza los peligros, mediante directrices, controles y asesoría a las áreas operativas. Además se desarrolló el Programa 180° que busca promover el bienestar de los colaboradores mediante consultas médicas, talleres, charlas y actividades deportivas, impartidas por profesionales interdisciplinarios en psicología, medicina laboral y nutrición.

    La empresa cuenta con una Política Ambiental actualizada en el 2019, además se han elaborado un conjunto de guías de diseño y reglamentación ambiental interna para monitorear y controlar la forma en que los desarrollos dentro de la Península Papagayo interactúan con el medio ambiente. En total, se han implementado 43 Protocolos Ambientales, tanto para las fases constructivas y operativas como otros protocolos de aplicación general. Algunos de los temas que regulan son la corta de árboles, el control de ruido, las vibraciones y la erosión, el almacenamiento y manejo de químicos, la convivencia con la fauna silvestre, el tratamiento de aguas, los residuos sólidos, entre otros. Todos los protocolos deben ser acatados obligatoriamente por proveedores, visitantes, residentes, desarrolladores y funcionarios, según aplique. Su cumplimiento se monitorea de forma constante de acuerdo con la fase en que se encuentre el proyecto: las guías de diseño las hace cumplir el Master Design Review Board. En la fase constructiva, el regente ambiental de la empresa a cargo de la construcción se encarga de asegurar el cumplimiento y solicitar ajustes cuando identifica desviaciones; y en la fase operativa, se monitorea mediante recorridos e inspecciones del personal de Ecodesarrollo Papagayo Limitada.

    En tan solo una década, la cobertura de coral en Bahía Culebra ha disminuido desde el 60 % hasta el 4 %, sumado con la pérdida de diversidad de peces e invertebrados. Una pérdida en la salud y diversidad de este ambiente provoca que las comunidades dejen de percibir los bienes y servicios que este brinda, lo cual implica mayor presión sobre los mismos ecosistemas e incrementa los problemas sociales. Para abordar esta problemática, en el 2019, se conformó una alianza entre el Sistema Nacional de Áreas de Conservación (SINAC), el Centro de Investigación en Ciencias del Mar y Limnología de la Universidad de Costa Rica (CIMAR), Raising Coral Costa Rica, Península Papagayo y el Programa Biodiversidad y Negocios (DABio), que implementa la Cooperación Alemana para el Desarrollo (GIZ), con la finalidad de establecer un proyecto de restauración de corales en Bahía Culebra, que dio como resultado el programa Culebra Reef Gardens. Entre los principales logros y resultados que se han obtenido hasta el momento, destacan los siguientes: Instalación de tres viveros en Playa Jícaro establecidos en el plan piloto. 950 m² de área intervenida en cuatro sitios de restauración: Playa Jícaro, Playa Blanca, Playa Virador y las Islas Pelonas. Colocación de 47 viveros en los cuatro sitios de restauración con estructuras de diferentes tipos: dos árboles, un tendedero, seis marcos en A y 38 arañas. Reproducción de más de 4500 fragmentos de coral en los viveros. El porcentaje más alto de supervivencia de estos corales es del 83,2 %. Capacitación de más de cien personas en el tema de restauración coralina, entre buzos, colaboradores de la empresa y tour operadores.

    Se ha establecido una Política Ambiental, y un conjunto de guías de diseño y reglamentación ambiental interna para monitorear y controlar la forma en que los desarrollos dentro de la Península Papagayo interactúan con el medio ambiente. En total, se han implementado 43 Protocolos Ambientales, tanto para las fases constructivas y operativas como otros protocolos de aplicación general. Mediante el Sistema de Gestión Ambiental se planifican y ejecutan acciones para reducir el impacto ambiental de las actividades, específicamente en los parámetros de Generación de Residuos Sólidos, Consumo de Recurso Hídrico y Consumo de Energía. Con lo cual se han alcanzado los siguientes logros: • Se obtuvo el galardón de Bandera Azul Ecológica, un programa voluntario de reconocimiento nacional para demostrar el compromiso ambiental mediante acciones concretas para reducir el consumo de recursos y prevenir la contaminación. • Se redujo en un 16 % la generación de residuos sólidos no valorizables. • El 100% de las aguas residuales, se someten a depuración a través de sistemas especializados de tratamiento terciario y posteriormente, se reutilizan para irrigación. • El 66,3 % de la energía utilizada en el 2021 provino de fuentes renovables. Debido a la riqueza natural del sitio donde se ubica el proyecto Península Papagayo, la compañía trabaja en pro de la conservación de la biodiversidad marina y terrestre, por lo que ha liderado innovadores proyectos de conservación y ha impulsado alianzas entre diferentes sectores que se unen para trabajar por un objetivo común: la preservación de la riqueza natural de la zona. Entre ellos destaca el proyecto para la restauración de corales en Bahía Culebra: Culebra Reef Gardens, que ha permitido la colocación de 47 viveros en los cuatro sitios de restauración y la reproducción de más de 4500 fragmentos de coral.
