Special attention is given to the respect of human rights across the wood supply chain where the risk of human rights abuse is the highest. The company checks its wood suppliers on a scheduled basis. The check includes an assessment of whether the rights of the personnel are respected and whether there is any timber in the wood supply chain that was harvested in the forests used by the local communities for livelihood or forests that have cultural or historical value. In 2021, the company launched a local communities development program that aims to improve the living conditions and quality of life (education, health care, housing, etc.) in the communities where the company operates — towns and townships for the most part.Labour

As part of its efforts to bring its occupational safety and health management system in compliance with the ISO 45001 standard, the company continues to improve its effective processes by developing and implementing standards for risk management and audit processes and launching a risk assessment training process in the field of occupational health and safety. An increased frequency of fires is a major challenge. The company is managing this problem through the implementation of a fire risk prediction algorithm. In 2022, the company plans to put in place a comprehensive fire safety program. Contractor companies working at the company’s mills are a major source of problems with labor rights. In order to tackle this problem the company will develop and implement in 2022 a comprehensive system to select and manage mill contractors, similar to the one that has been in place for the timber harvesting contractors.Environment

The company continues to work to bring its environmental management system in compliance with the ISO 14001 standard. As part of this effort, the effective environmental policy will be revised and new regulations will be developed to enforce the revised policy. In the reporting period, the company started working to organize the effluent streams from the existing production processes in order to stabilize the amount and chemical composition of the effluents. There is a plan to launch a long-term wastewater system modernization program that includes the effluent treatment facilities.Anti-corruption

In 2022, the company plans to develop a roadmap of actions to develop and implement measures aimed at improving the employees’ awareness, conduct anti-corruption policy compliance audits, and put in place corruption risk assessment tools.
